When bleaching powder is exposed to air it reacts with Carbon dioxide present in the air  to produce Calcium carbonate and Chlorine gas.

CaOCl2 + CO2 → CaCO3 + Cl2 ↑

Bleaching powder is a yellowish White powder with a strong smell of chlorine .when bleaching powder is exposed in air gives a smell of chlorine .this is because bleaching powder reacts with carbon dioxide from the atmosphere to produce calcium carbonate and chlorine
