Stomata are tiny pores that are found on the epidermis of leaves, stem and some fruits . Stomata are present on aerial parts of plant for transpiration to occur. Roots are present in soil which would block them. Stomata on the upper surface prevent excessive loss of water due to transpiration as this surface is directly exposed to sunlight. In aquatic plants stomata are either absent or non-functional.
