a+2d = 4 …(1)

a+8d = -8 …(2)

Deduct (1) from (2), to get

6d = -12, or d = -2.

From (1), a = 4–2d = 4+4 = 8.

So the numbers of the AP are- 8, 6, 4, 2, 0, -2, -4, -6, -8.

So the 5th term is zero.
