The element is silicon (Si). It also belongs to group 14. It also shows catenation but as its size is bigger than that of carbon, Si—Si bonds are comparatively weak. Though upto seven to eight, silicon atoms can be linked to form different compounds but the stability of these compounds decreases gradually.
