Except 1st and last member of transition series all other Transition metal exhibit variety of oxidation state. This is because the difference of energy between (n-1)d & ns electron is very small. Hence electron from both the energy level can be removed to exhibit variable oxidation state . In F block element the energy difference is very large in between two orbital and hence are not available for bond formation or less number of oxidation state.
