Latitude affects the climate of any place. Due to curvature of the earth, the amount of solar energy received varies according to latitude. Foe example : The places near the equator are hot whereas placew near the the poles are cold dur to latitude.

The Tropic of Cancer passes almost from the middle of the country.
Almost half of the country, lying south of the Tropic of Cancer, belongs to the tropical area.
All the remaining area in the north of the Tropic lies in the sub-tropical area.
Therefore, India’s climate has characteristics of tropical as well as sub-tropical type of climate.
