iron and steel industry is called basic or key industry because all the other industries whether heavy, medium or light, depend on it for teir machinery. steel is needed to manufacture a variety of engineering goods. it is also needed for construction material, defence, medical, telephone, scientific equipment and a variety of consumer goods.
