Plantation agriculture refers to single crop farming practised on a large area. In plantation farming crops are mainly grown for the market. It is capital intensive and labour intensive. It has an interface of industry and agriculture. A developed network of transport and communication is vital for this type of farming. In plantation farming the produce may be processed on the farm itself or in nearby factories. Transport helps to connect the farm to the processing industries. It also connects the plantation processing industries with the markets. In this way a transport network facilitates the development of plantations.
