Setting pipelines initially is a costly affair.
Pipelines may pass through areas under volatile conditions like that in Gulf region , which result in tampering and damage to them.
Any damage to the pipelines may result in water , soil, air pollution leading to environmental degradation.
It is also difficult to detect leakage and repair the fault.
It is not a flexible means of transportation, once it is laid out , it is difficult to increase its capacity.
