Momentum is a vector, which means it’s defined both as to size and as to direction. Whereas energy is a scalar and doesn’t have a “direction.”.
A lot of problems are solved by using the principle that momentum is conserved, and (or) that energy is conserved. But they’re not the same thing because momentum is conserved in the direction it was originally, whereas energy doesn’t have any “direction.”
Momentum is always conserved in any isolated system but not the Kinetic Energy itself is.
