Due to blowing of monsoon wind towards the land. The winds blow from sea are laden with moisture.Due to the moisture of wind , western slope cools down with increasing altitudes and results in the formation of rain clouds which brings heavy rainfall to the western slopes.
When the wind reaches the eastern slope , it shed much of their moisture and they get warmer and results in negligible amount rainfall in the eastern slope.Due to this reason western slopes of the western ghats covered with thick forest and not the eastern slopes.
