What is the difference between stress and tension

Tension defines a force that acts axially when an object is pulled on both sides. As it is a force, it has units of pounds or Newtons depending on the types of units you are using. Stress is a result of a force being applied to an object. When the object is loaded with a force, internal components of the object apply internal forces to one another. This effectively deforms the object. Stress, although a result of an applied force, is measured in units of pressure, which is pounds per square inch or Newtons per meter squared.Stress can actually result from tension forces since tension is an applied forces.
