  • The constitution makers made the provision for reserved constituencies for members of the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes in India because :
  • The economically weaker section of the society may not have the required resources, education and contacts to contest and win elections against others.
  • Those who are influential and resourceful may prevent them from winning elections.
  • The Delimitation Commission of India identifies these constituencies and revises them from time to time based on changing demographics.
