As France wanted the money in terms of reparation (gold) then they took control over its leading industries Ruhr to get back the gold due to which Germany started printing paper notes (mark) in an uncontrollable manner. With too much of printed money the value of the Mark felt. With too much of printed money in circulation the value of German mark fell. As the value of German mark collapsed, the prices of goods scored. The image of Germans carrying cartloads of currency notes to buy a loaf of bread was widely publicised evoking worldwide sympathy. This crisis came to be known as hyperinflation, situation when price rises phenomenally high
