    Often the moon turns brown in an eclipse but can become a reddish, coppery colour or orange. Thursday's eclipse sent the moon into a "blood red" colour. The lunar face is usually tinged by light from the Sun that refracts as it passes through our atmosphere. And for different shapeThe apparent different size of Moon is an optical illusion which causes the Moon to appear larger near the horizon than it does higher up in the sky. ... Oddly enough, when our brain focuses on the horizon moon and we perceive it as being farther away it actually makes it appear closer.
