Electrochemistry is defined as that branch of chemistry which deals with the study of the production of electricity from the energy that is released during spontaneous chemical reactions and the use of electrical energy to bring about non-spontaneous chemical transformations. There are various places where electrochemistry is important, e.g. electrochemistry is used for the purpose of electroplating, electrochemistry is required in the production of metals like Na, Mg. Ca and Al., in the purification of metals and also in Batteries and cells used in various instruments.
