1st case Vertically upwards Speed =20m/s Time=t Here acceleration is = -g Let us take the distance as 'x' m We know that s=ut + 1/2 at² By substituting the values, x=20×t+ 1/2× -g × t².............1 2nd case Vertically downwards Speed= 20m/s Time= t Acceleration = +g Distance =40-x From s=ut +1/2at² , 40-x=20×t +1/2gt².............2 Adding 1and 2 we get, 40=40t t=40/40=1 Substituting t=1 in equation 1 X=20+1/2×-9.8×1² =20-4.9 =15.1 m
