    The Nobles enjoyed feudal privileges and extracted it from the 3rd estate. The clergy extracted their share in the form of tithes.

    During the old regime, the french society was divided into 3 sections : 1)the nobles: the people who were related to the King and his family. 2) the clergy: the religious people who were a part of the church and it's doing. 3) the 3rd estate: this contained all other people in France. They were the people who paid taxes like, merchants, peasants, artisans etc.
