Soil erosion is a natural process. It becomes a problem when human activity causes it to occur much faster than under natural conditions.
effects:

Topsoil is lost through soil erosion. This can reduce soil quality and cause water pollution.
Half of the topsoil on the planet has been lost in the last 150 years.
Soil carried off in rain or irrigation water can lead to sedimentation of rivers.
