Soil erosion is a natural process. It becomes a problem when human activity causes it to occur much faster than under natural conditions.
effects:
- Topsoil is lost through soil erosion. This can reduce soil quality and cause water pollution.
- Half of the topsoil on the planet has been lost in the last 150 years.
- Soil carried off in rain or irrigation water can lead to sedimentation of rivers.
