Septate hyphae: The hyphae that are composed of individual cells separated from one another by cell walls. The septa have openings called pores between the cells, to allow the flow of cytoplasm and nutrients throughout the mycelium.
Aseptate hyphae: There are no cell walls in the individual cells and their nuclei are spread throughout the hypha. They are the more primitive form of hyphae; species with septate hyphae diverged from a common ancestor with coenocytic hyphae.
