It is divided on the basis of rivers with regional names.The part of himalayas lying between indus and satluj rivers is known as punjab himalayas.The part of himalayas lying between satluj and kali rivers is known as kumaon himalayas.The part of himalayas lying between kali and tista rivers is known as nepal himalayas.The part of himalayas lying between tista and dihang rivers is known as assam himalayas. Beyond the dihang gorge,the himalayas bend sharply towards the south spreading along the eastern boundary of india.This is known as purvanchal range.They are composed of strong sandstones or sedimentary rocks.They are densely forested running as parallel ranges and valleys.Ex:naga hills,mizo hills,patkai hills,manipur hills.
