It was in 1794 that Convention passed a law to free all the slaves in French overseas possession. But thos lasted only for 10 yrs because when Napoleon Bonaparte became the emperor of France in 1804 he reintroduced slavery. In 1848 the slavery was finally abolished in French societies.

Jacobins club first abolished slavery in france. And then in it was reintroduced by napolean. Finally slavery was abolished in 1940
