At Chauri Chaura in Gorakhpur,a peaceful demonstration in a Bazar turned into a violent clash with the police.Hearing of the incident, Mahatma Gandhi Ji called a haltto the non cooperation movement.

Chauri chaura is an incident gorakhpur when the common people were demonstrating in the bazaar(market), where they were attacked by the police or britishers. In this incident 20-22 policemen died. This hurted Gandhiji and he gave a halt to non cooperation movement.
