See it was an early assumption that the direction of +vely chages (protons) is the direction of current but now we are well known that only electron can come out and it is -ve so now also we take the same with the fact that e- move in opposite direction of protons

Yes the potential difference , like +ve terminals lack electrons and -ve have ample of them thus they flow from negative to positive end If u take the opposite charge positron or a proton for it it is excess in +ve terminal thus moves from excess to defficient point
