Let 'a+b' be x 4(a+b) - 6(a+b)^2 4x - 6x^2 -6x^2 + 4x + 0 -6x^2 + 4x + 0x + 0 (-6x^2 + 4x) + (0x + 0) 2x(-3x + 2) + 0(-3x + 2) =2x(-3x + 2) 2(a+b){ -3(a+b) + 2 } =2(a+b)(-3a - 3b + 2) Hence factorized.
