    Ahmedabad and Kolkata lie below the Tropic of cancer which enable them to get vertical rays of the sun twice in a year and not even once in Delhi, which lies above the Tropic of cancer.

    Ahmedabad has 23 degree N and kolkata 22.5 degree N,delhi is at latitude28 degree N .This means the first two cities lies within the tropic of cancer is the circle apparent position of the Sun at the time of Northern solstice it is also the farthest North latitude at which the sun can be directly overhead so in Delhi the sun is never directly overhead

    The sun's apparent movement towards north and south of the equator is within two tropics.All the places located within the tropics have overhead sun twice a year. Both Ahmedabad and Kolkata lie to the south of the Tropic of Cancer. That is why these two stations see the noon sun overhead twice a year. Delhi is located at 29°N latitude much to the north of Tropic of Cancer. The sun's rays are near overhead in sub-tropical zone. It will never see noon sun overhead , at anytime of the year.
