Sinhala community wanted to secure their dominance over govt. by virtue of majority. The Sinhala govt.( Which was elected) adopted majoritarian measures to establish Sinhala supremacy. The Act of 1956 recognised Sinhala as official language and govt. followed policies to favour Sinhalas for job. Sri Lankan tamils felt alienated and led protests and struggle. They wanted 1)Regional autonomy 2) Opportunity in securing jobs 3) Language Recognition 4) Education facilities
