    Because it leads to the formation of HI . Being a good reducing agent it reduces RI formed during the reaction to the respected hydrocarbon RH. TO CARRY OUT THIS REACTION WITH KI STRONG OXIDIZING AGENTS LIKE HNO3 ARE USED
