The movement began with the surrender of titles that the government awarded,and a boycott of civil services, army,police,courts and legislative council's,schools and foriegn goods.Then in case the government used repression,a full civil disobedience was launched.Popular support for the movement was mobilised.Foriegn goods were boycotted,lliquor shops picketed and foriegn cloth burnt in fires.The import of foriegn clothes fell largely.
