Watershed management refers to the process of creating and implementing plans, programmes, and projects to sustain and enhance watershed functions that affect the plant, animal, and human communities within a watershed boundary. The main purpose of watershed management is to protect, maintain, and restore water quality in our watersheds, through integrated and holistic efforts.
Advantages:
i) Ecological imbalance can be avoided.
ii) Harmful impacts on the system can be identified quickly so that prevention or improvements can be carried out in right away.
iii) It can prevent future community water shortage and poor water quality.
iv) It increases the production and income of the watershed community.
v) It mitigates droughts and floods.
vi) It increases the life of the downstream dam and reservoirs.
