oxidation refers to adding of oxygen or removal of hydrogen from a compound .rrduction refers to loss of oxygen or gaining hydrogen atoms by a compound. oxidizing agent is a substance which losses oxygen and gains hydrogen or be ca say that oxidiing agent is the substance which oxidises other substances and reduces itself. reducing agent is a substance which gives hydrogen or gains oxygen or we can say that reducing agent is the substance which reduces other substances and oxidise itself
