We get information about Chandals from the accounts of these two Chinese visitors Fa-Hian (405AD) and Xuan-Zang (630-643AD) According to the accounts of Xuan zang , executioners and the scavengers were forced to live outside the city. According to Fa-Hian Chandals lived segregated from the rural and urban population. They had to create a noise with the help of a stick in order to inform of their presence whenever they went to the city or market. So that the other people might not get profaned because of coming into their contact.
