If charge is divided into Q/2 and Q/2 then force will be maximum. Devendra is correct:- Let the charge is divided into q1 and q2 and apply dF/dq=0 d[(kq1×q2)/r^2]/dq=0 As charge remains same so q2 =Q-q1 k/r^2 d[q1(Q-q1)]/dq=0 d[Qq1-q1q1]/dq=0 Q-2q1=0 q1=Q/2 and q2=Q-Q/2=Q/2 Hence both charges are half of original charge
