Find the zeroes of the polynomial x^2+x-a(a+1)
  • 1 answers

Susai Raj 7 years, 6 months ago

x^2 + x - a(a+1) =0   =>

x^2 + (a+1)x - ax - a(a+1) = 0   =>

x{x+(a+1)} - a{x+(a+1)} = 0    =>

{x+(a+1)}(x-a) = 0    =>

x+(a+1) = 0 or x+a = 0.   (Since if ab=0 then either a=0 or b=0)    =>

x = -(a+1)  or x = -a  ie  x = -a -1  or x = -a

So the zeros of the given polynomial are -a -1  or   -a.
