Let the number of right answers and wrong answers be x and y respectively.
According to the question,
{tex}3x - y = 40{/tex} ...(i)
{tex}4x - 2y = 50{/tex}
{tex}\Rightarrow{/tex} {tex}2x - y = 25{/tex} ...(ii)
Subtracting equation (ii) from equation (i), we obtain:
{tex}x = 15{/tex}
Substituting the value of x in equation (ii), we obtain:
{tex}30 - y = 25{/tex}
{tex}y = 5{/tex}
Thus, the number of right answers and the number of wrong answers is 15 and 5 respectively. Therefore the total number of questions is 20.
