To measure large distances we use an important method i.e, called parallex method.if we look at a pencil held in front of eyes against a fixed reference i.e plain wall with left eye,closing right eye then with right eye,closing left eye observe that position of pencil seems to change w.r.t fixed reference point i.e wall.this is called PARALLEX. Distance between eyes is called basis. FOR EXAMPLE - if we see mars by two laboratories or observateries at same time, position of mars seems to change w.r.t observateries this is parallex and distance between two observateries is basis.
