we have: g(x)=x-2 =0 =>x =2 putting the value of g(x)=2 ; we get: p(x)= x - 3 + 5x - 3 g(2)= 2 - 3 + 5(2) - 3 = 2 - 3 + 5×2 - 3 = 2 - 3 + 10 - 3 = 12 - 6 = 6 Hence, the value of x is 6. (second method) let, the polynomial p(x)is denoted by f(x). g(x)= x - 2 => x - 2 = 0 => x = 2. then, f(x)= x - 3 + 5x - 3 g(x)= x - 3 + 5x - 3 g(2) = 2 - 3 + 5×2 - 3 = 2 - 3 + 10 - 3 = 2 + 10 - 3 - 3 = 12 - 6 = 6 Hence, the required value of x is 6.
