When boron is doped with silicon, p-type semiconductor is formed. This is because Boron is a group 13 element and silicon is a group 14 element. This is explained as follows........ The deficiency of an electron in one electron Bond creates a positive hole at the site for the electron missing. In the crystal structure of doped Silicon there as many positive holes as there are in Boron atoms these positive holes can conduct electricity under the influence of applied electric potential. Here, Boron is an acceptor impurity, as holes that are created due to the presence in The crystal structure of silicon can accept electrons from the neighbouring covalent bonds.
