Oxidation reaction is the reaction in which gain of oxygen and loss of hydrogen are called oxidation. .Example Cuo + H 2 -------------->Cu + h20 this is oxidation because h20 gain oxygen. Reduction reaction is a reaction in which loss of oxygen and gain of hydrogen are called Reduction . Example is the same that are show in this reaction Cuo is loss his oxygen that 's why it is reduction

If oxygen is gain in any reaction then it is known as oxidation reaction and if hydrogen is add in any reaction then it is known as reduction reaction

The chemical reaction which involves the the addition of oxygen or removal of hydrogen or loss of electrons is known as oxidation reaction on the other hand the chemical reaction which involves the the removal of oxygen or addition of hydrogen or gain of electrons is known as reduction reaction.
