Inversion - when on undergoing substitution the relative order of arrangement of non substituted groups changes without change in structure then this change is said to be or described as inversion if this arrangement doesn't change then it's retention. When a molecule undergoes a substitution reaction such that both inverted and retained moleculess are produced in the same amount then this process is racemisation.
