To maintain uniform time over india because in arunachal pradesh sunset occurs befor 2 hour of sunset in gujarat. It is not only in these two states but also at many parts of india. So to share a common time that lies at the longitude of 82°30E which passes uttar pradesh, we have 82°30E as our standard time
