Take a glass beaker fix two electrodes. The positive electrode acts as anode &negative electrode act as cathode. Fill 1/3 of beaker with water. Take two test tubes. Insert on electrodes. Observe the level of water in the test tubes. Connect the electrodes to a battery. Pass the electricity for a period of time. Later switch off the current and observe the level of water in test tubes. The level of water in the test tubes is decreased. The free space in the test tubes is filled with H2 and O2 gases. Oxygen gas is evolved at anode and hydrogen gas released at cathode.
