Photosynthesis: It is the process by which green plants make their own food from carbon dioxide and water in the presence of chlorophyll and sunlight.
6CO₂+ 6H₂O $\frac{Sunlight}{chlorophyll}$ $\rightarrow$ C₆H₁₂O₆ + 6O₂

Mechanism of Photosynthesis:

Absorption of light energy by chlorophyll.
Conversion of light energy into chemical energy.
Splitting of water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen.
Reduction of carbon dioxide into carbohydrate.
