As 40% aqueous solution is given, so 40 g of benzoic acid(C6H5COOH) is present in 100g solution. Moles of benzoic acid=(given mass/molar mass) =40/122 =0.32mol Mass of solvent(water)=100-40=60g Moles of water=60/18 =3.33mol Mole fraction of benzoic acid = moles of solute(benzoic acid) / moles of solution (solute +solvent) =0.32/(0.32+3.33) =0.087 Mole fraction of benzoic acid=0.087.
