Let the two numbers be x and y. (x > y)
x - y = 5 ---------(i)
1/y - 1/x = 110 --------- (ii)
or, (x - y)/xy 110
but x - y = 5 so xy = 1/22 or 4xy = 2/11
(x + y)2 = (x - y)2 + 4xy = 52 + 2/11 = 277/11
or, x + y = {tex}squareroot 277/11{/tex} -----------(iii)
on adding (i) and (iii) x = 5/2 + sqroot 277/11
on putting the value of x in (i) y = 5/2 - sqroot277/11
