Anamolous behavior means a behavior which is different from the expected trend. Nitrogen, the first element in the group 15. Shows different properties from that of other fellow elements. It does not has d orbital thus it cannot extend its covalence to show +5 oxidation state like phosphorus and other elemnts can. Nitrogen exists as dinitrogen ....gaseous form at room temperature. Its forms triple bonds and unlike others has a very high bond dissociation enthalpy....there are many other anomalies in behavior of nitrogen... Even in all the first elemnts of each group in s n p block ...main reason is small size and absence of d orbital.
