In chemical kinetics the value of rate constant ,k, quantifies the rate of a chemical reaction.
Rate constant is defined as the rate of a reaction when concentration of each reactant is taken as unity.
Some important charecteristics of a rate constant are ,
1. It is a measure of rate of a reaction . Greater the value of rate constant faster is the rate of reaction
2. Each reaction has definite value of rate constant at a fixed temperature.
3. The value of rate constant for the same reaction changes with temperature
4. The unit of rate constant depends upon order of reaction..
