No, exccesive of anything is wrong. There is a capacity of plants to relieve water into air through transpiration. If their would be more water they wouldn't be able to relieve it. Moreover some plants need more water. Thus they are adapted to more water while not others. Thus plants get decayed due to exccesive water

I think the answer is that when we add too much water to the plant then the soil is totally filled with water and there is no space for roots to breath and they gets decayed and ultimately plant decayes
