Yes, he himself was . first of all he was utterly unfriendly , rude and irresponsible . He kept every other thing at bay , expelled himself out of his family and friends circle , just to fullfill his selfish lust of enjoying benifits of invisibility . He gave no chance to society to influence him of its prestine pure ethics and noble culture . hence it is justified that he himself invited his doom.

I think society was responsible for it as no one has ever supported him and no one understands him and also there was no moral support behind him
