    Let us find the square root of 2 by long division method as shown below:

    {tex}\Rightarrow{/tex} {tex}\sqrt{2}{/tex} = 1.4142135.
    Clearly, the decimal representation of{tex}\sqrt{2}{/tex} is neither terminating nor repeating. Hence, it is not a rational number.
